This Sunday On Radio Red White & Blue

This Lord's Day the Rev Robert West expounds Hebrews 2:17

"Therefore in all things He (Jesus) had to be made like unto His
brethren".

Jesus became man but He was also incarnated into our situation.

He grew in stature with man and with God and entered His public role by the
ministration of baptism at the hands of John the Baptist.

But why?

It was all done that He might be the "go-between" - the only one who would
be able to mediate between ourselves and an offended God!

What is the Chief End of Man?

That is the first question set out in the Westminster Shorter Catechism compiled at the Westminster Assembly of divines (theologians) that met in London in 1644.  It was a catechism, or question and answer manual of instruction, intended for a united Church of all of Great Britain and Ireland, but it ended up becoming the catechism of only the Church of Scotland, and of other Presbyterian denominations.  But it is a good catechism nonetheless, and it is a good opening question.

The Sunday Sermon: 24-7-11

In this week's Sunday sermon, the Rev Robert West continues with his exposition of Hebrews chapter 2 with verse 10, and explains that the atoning work of Christ upon the cross brings glory, not shame, to God; that this sacrifice for sin brings many, but not all, to eternal redemption; and that in achieving so costly and so precious a result the eternal Son of God, become man, became perfected in His office as mediator, and saviour, by the things which He suffered.
His sufferings were redemptive in intent and outcome.  We can add nothing to it for it is Christ that has achieved eternal redemption for His people - those who truly believe in Him.

The Sunday Semon-17-7-2011

3-crosses This Sunday morning the Rev Robert West will be taking us through Hebrews 2: 9 in which the writer tells us that Christ by the grace of God tasted death for every man, whether Jew or Gentile, bond or free, male or female (Gal 3: 28).
Though Christ redeemed us by Himself (Hebrews 1:3) He did it by the eternal Spirit (Hebrews 9:14).
There is no good reason why anyone should taste eternal death for themselves.  Hebrews 2: 9 is compared with Zechariah 13 in the Old Testament and with Luke's gospel chapter 22: 39-53.
The Rev West, in his sermon, criticises the New International Version for getting some translating very seriously wrong and for being based on corrupt manuscripts.  Churches must look into this and try a better version, he suggests.
